About the Book In his publishing debut, HBO star Reyes introduces his philosophy of Hero Living: part Homer, part Joseph Campbell, part Bruce Lee, and part Spider-Man. Book Synopsis The star of HBOs Generation Kill and the real-life warrior from the New York Times bestseller presents his empowering philosophy. In his publishing debut, Rudy Reyes introduces his warrior philosophy of Hero Living part Homer, part Joseph Campbell, part Bruce Lee, and part Spider-Man. He outlines the various stages in the journey to bring forth the hero within: recognizing the heros call, following the heros path, and returning from the battlefield with the heros hard- earned wisdom. Taking readers step-by-step through his program, Reyes draws from his own heroic story of how he triumphed over his harrowing childhood experiences of poverty and abandonment. Rather than giving up hope, he heeded the heros call to live up to his full potential-first as a martial-arts champion, then as an elite warrior in the mountains of Afghanistan and sands of Iraq, and finally in his post-Marines life as a personal trainer, actor, and motivational speaker. About the Author Rudy Reyes served three tours of duty with the marines, first in Afghanistan immediately after 9/11, then in the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and finally in Fallujah in 2004-05. After leaving the Marine Corps with honors, he went on to become a sought-after physical trainer, a public speaker on leadership and veterans issues, and an actor and military adviser on HBOs Generation Kill . He is the author of Hero Living . Evan Wright is the author of Hella Nation and the award-winning Generation Kill , the basis of the HBO(R) miniseries for which Wright served as co-writer. Wright earned his degree in medieval and Renaissance studies from Vassar College, an education he soon put to work at Hustler magazine, where he served as Entertainment Editor. In the late 1990s he began writing feature articles for Rolling Stone focused on youth subcultures. Wright has covered the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and is the recipient of two National Magazine Awards, one for reporting on the war in Iraq in Rolling Stone and the other for a profile published in Vanity Fair .
