Having come to the deserts of Western Australia in the 1890s as a camel driver, homesick young Afghani Hanif Gilal Abdullah (Ahmed Malek) fatefully encountered Mal Riley (David Wenham), a wounded bushranger carrying a fortune in Crown-stamped gold bars.
